My first passion is the love of my life - my wonderful wife Marsha. (Her Chinese name is Kiawlan - a fitting name - as pretty as she is.)

I was a high school wrestler and we "had to" run for conditioning. Our team manager was a great guy named Jeff Lindstrom. Most of you know Jeff as a Prairie State Road Runner and former President. I hated to run but Jeff (a cross-country team runner) always said I was pretty fast and should try my hand (or feet) at it. Several years later I began running (more like jogging) and decided to enter a 5 km race - and actually placed!

I always thought 26.2 miles was too far to run without eating but on a dare in 1995 (Lake County) I qualified for Boston on the first attempt. (Ran Boston 1996, 1997 and 2003) Completed 16 marathons so far.

PR in marathon is 2:56 and 16:59 for the 5 km. In my mid-fifties now, I have a new outlook on running: Running is a relative term. What I referred to as jogging ten years ago - today - I call that running. The important thing is that we are doing something to promote wellness in ourselves - regardless of speed.

My sports heroes: Mickey Mantle, Walter Payton and Pat Koerner. Pat is a very cool person. I first met Pat in the early 90′s at my first race. The next time a saw him, Pat remembered my name and asked me to join him in a cool down. He actually did the entire course for a cool down! This summarizes, for me, what running is really all about - being together with a great group of people.

So come on - join the fun! Won′t you please consider joining the Prairie State Road Runners? We sure would love to have you!
